Tired of handing out the same old Father's Day tie? Short of money, or ideas for dad? All dads share one thing in common: they love making memories. Why not give him a part of you?!
Here's a few suggestions on giving Pops some memories with you on Father's Day.
How about a long walk? A bike ride or a little driveway basketball? A picnic at the lake with fishing? If dad golfs, offer to be his caddy. If you have a video camera, capture the moment by recording it!
How about board games? All dads had some favorite board game growing up. Sit down with some snacks and a board game, and see what happens. You just might discover that these games are not as boring as you think, and they may offer a great chance to laugh and interact!
Make a coupon book. Are there some things he loves to do with the family but can't seem to find the time? Are there some items on the honey-do list that Dad really hates? Why not make a coupon book offering different activities? Make coupons for everything from washing the car to taking him out and sharing his favorite pastime. The list of things you can include is endless. He'll appreciate the gift of your time and interest in him.
Classic movies. Grab some popcorn and a DVD of your dad's favorite classic movie, and watch it with him. Maybe after the movie, suggest running out to his favorite ice cream place together and sharing a sundae with him.
Long distance. If you aren't near enough to make an in-person visit on Father's Day, consider some ways to narrow the gap. Write a letter to pops instead of sending the same old Hallmark Moment. How about a chatty phone call? When he asks if you want to speak to your mother - say, "No, I called to talk to you." You can still make a gift of yourself, even if the miles separate you!
Make an effort this year not to resort to the old standbys. Offer something to your dad that is unique to you and to him. Give him the gift of you, your time, and your interest.
