Breast Implant Surgery

Breast Implant Surgery

Breast implant surgery, breast augmentation, mammoplasty - it has become the single most elected cosmetic surgery procedure in the relatively short history of plastic surgery. While breast enlargements continue to be a firm favorite - women now have an array of choices (breast augmentation, breast reconstruction, breast implants, breast lifts, and breast reductions).

About Breast Implant Surgery.

Most forms of breast implant surgery involves a small incision approximately 1.5 inches made in either around the areola, belly button, the fold under the breast, or in the underarm. For saline implants, a pocket is made and the implant is inserted and then inflated with saline solution (salt water).

The procedure itself usually takes between one to two hours. Bandaging/dressings are worn for the proceeding 24 to 48 hours. A support bra is normally worn for around 3 weeks. You should avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting for about a month after surgery.

The bruising and swelling around the breasts will dissipate with time, as well as the firmness in the breasts. A little discomfort will be experienced for several days following the procedure.

Possible side effects of breast implant surgery?

In the US, saline implants are used for breast augmentation (silicone rubber shells filled with saline). They are available in a varity of shapes and sizes. If saline implants are not your best solution then you might look into High-Strength Gel Breast Implants.

Contrary to what you've heard, implants show no heightened risk of disease or breast cancer. However, as with all surgery there are risks. Unfavorable scarring may occur, asymmetry, infection, bleeding, excessive firmness, rippling, deflation, and a change in nipple sensation may also be encountered. But keep in mind, breast augmentation has the highest satisfaction rate of any cosmetic surgery.

What to look for and how much will breast augmentation cost?

Breast augmentation or implants, on average, cost about $5,000 for a regular procedure. This cost may vary fairly dramatically from area to area, and it also depends on the method of implantation, what type of breast implant you get, and who is performing the surgery. You also may pay more if you choose newer methods, which are typically only in practice by more experienced or higher end plastic surgeons who are able to practice the latest greatest methods of insertion of the implant, method of placement, and so on and so forth. Remember you get what you pay for, and the price you pay is usually indicative of the qualifications, experience and expertise of your surgeon.

Verify that your surgeon has been certified and backed by the ABPS, or American Board of Plastic Surgery. Use your best instincts and judgment when shopping around. It's really not worth saving a few bucks if you aren't happy with the results.

Some websites may offer referrals to discount surgery. These are usually reputable, and offer around a $500 discount on popular plastic surgery procedures such as mammoplasty, just use your judgment again. If you're not comfortable, look elsewhere. Another option is to ask your surgeon if they offer credit agreements to spread the cost overtime.

Chances are if you find youself wondering, "Are those real?" - probably not. Breast implants are here and show no signs slowing down in popularity.
